The Southern Illinois Mercantile, and all the ladies there, forever have my heart! When they reached out to me for an image branding session to refresh their summer marketing, I immediately started thinking of fun, creative ways to showcase their sweet store. Tanya & Ellen, the incredible women behind The Mercantile, always say that The Mercantile is “just like Grandma’s house.” I really wanted their branding images to exude that warmth and fun feeling. We decided to feature the ice cream, old-fashioned sodas, floats, and a few other summer mainstays!
T & E gave me so much creative freedom with this image branding session. I love that! Knowing that The Mercantile collected bottle caps, I wanted to use those to create unique soda images that popped. After a lot of trial & error, we decided to use the bottle caps to create a waterfall look, as if the soda bottles were coming from the cascade of caps. For a moment, everyone thought I was crazy! But as the vision started coming together, we all fell more & more in love with the look. Scroll down to take a peek! (Photographer’s Trick: I used sticky tack to hold the caps on the wall!)
When creating business branding images, I always try to incorporate different, special aspects of a business. After all, that’s what makes your business unique! Tanya & Ellen love having fresh flowers on each table at The Mercantile. We decided to highlight that with the ice cream photos! We wanted to bring out the bright colors and fresh flowers of the shop, so after photographing the cones, I flipped them over on the table and doused each one in sprinkles. I just love how they turned out, don’t you?!
One of my favorite things about image branding sessions is creating something special, that’s one-of-a-kind, and that’s NOT stock. The image that Tanya & Ellen received definitely can’t just be found on Pinterest. Their business is so unique and welcoming, it deserves that! If you’re in the Southern Illinois area, don’t forget to stop by The Mercantile, where everyone has a seat at Grandma’s table!
